Regional Initiatives for Gas of European Regulators’ Group for Electricity and Gas (ERGEG) for the second time in Poland

A meeting of interested parties representing Southern- South-Eastern Regional Gas Market in the frame of ERGEG Regional Gas Initiatives took place in Gdynia between 25 and 26 June.

Poland already hosts working meetings for consultation forum of ERGEG for the southern/ south-eastern markets for the second time. Marek Woszczyk, the URE Vice President participated in the consultation, which took place in the frame of Regional Initiatives for Gas. Moreover, the Polish side was represented by, among others, representatives of Transmission Gas Operator Gaz-System SA. as well as Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA.

The main idea of Regional Initiatives for Gas is to combine the efforts of the regulators, transmission system operators and other key market participants with the aim to identify prevailing problems in the functioning of the gas markets, and then working out the right solutions, which will improve free trade of gaseous fuels on the trans-system and trans-border scale.

The fundamental determinant for success of the process is the active engagement of the market participants, especially those independent, trying to make the trade smooth and break previous patterns in gas trade. Their experience is especially valuable to the regulators - maintains Marek Woszczyk, the URE Vice President.

In the frame of the above mentioned initiative, a few analytic projects are run, which concern, among others, transparency in gaseous fuel transmission, balancing and nomination procedures as well as issues of gas trade in interchanges. Especially the last project can play an important role in the process of further liberalization of Polish gas market and the plans to connect domestic gas system with the interchange in Baumgarten (CEGH Gmbh). As a balance point the hub will allow domestic shippers to conclude short-term agreements with the aim to balance temporary differences in the trade offer.

Provisions from the Gdynia meeting included in the document „Guidelines for importing and supplying natural gas to customers”, will shortly be published on the ERGEG sites.
