Second Meeting of the Cross-Sectoral Accelerator for the Development of the Polish Energy Sector: Setting Priorities and Tasks for the Working Groups

On December 10, the second meeting of the signatories to the Cross-Sectoral Accelerator for the Development of Polish Energy (the Accelerator) was held at the headquarters of the Energy Regulatory Office (URE). Participants discussed topics proposed by Accelerator members and selected priority tasks for the coming months, assigning them to specific working groups.

The second meeting of the Accelerator was attended by representatives from various government agencies, including Jacek Karnowski, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, and Konrad Wojnarowski, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Energy. Additionally, representatives from the Polish Power Grid (PSE) and organisations representing distribution system operators (DSOs), local authorities, district heating, gas, renewable energy sources (RES), electromobility, energy storage, biogas, biomethane, liquid fuels, and energy-intensive industries were present. The Economic Society of Polish Power Plants, representing electricity generators, was another organisation to join the initiative.

Since the inauguration on 29 October, we have received a lot of positive feedback and support for the Cross-Sectoral Accelerator for the Development of the Polish Energy Sector. We are eager to involve representatives from all the key areas of the energy sector in the Accelerator. Crucial discussions regarding the development of the Polish energy sector lie ahead. I am confident that the decisions made in the working groups will stem from dialogue and translate into concrete solutions - said Renata Mroczek, President of URE, in her opening speech.

The meeting addressed areas that the Accelerator signatories deemed most timely for collaborative action. A list of dialogue areas and corresponding working groups was drafted and approved:

  • Sectoral Integration Group to develop synergies between the electricity, heat and gas sectors, including the industry and transport sectors, aimed at effective transformation and development.
  • Network Infrastructure Group to accelerate the integration and sustainable development of RES and decarbonisation of the economy.
  • Flexibility and Redispatching Group to define a framework for developing flexibility services, system balancing with a high share of RES sources, and minimising out-of-market redispatching.
  • Electricity Market Group to optimise the functioning of the electricity market and enhance the competitiveness of Polish enterprises.
  • Fuel Market Group to optimise the functioning of the gaseous and liquid-fuel markets.

It was noted that the working groups' agendas should also include topics related to combating disinformation and fake news in energy-related industries, as well as deregulation issues.
