Gas market in Q3: falling prices and increasing transaction volumes in OTC and TGE contracts

  • In the third quarter of 2025, the average price of gas fuel in contracts concluded on the TGE (the Polish Power Exchange) decreased by nearly 30 per cent year-on-year.
  • The average prices of natural gas in sales transactions executed at the OTC[1] virtual point from July to September this year were lower by 14.5 per cent compared to the corresponding period of 2024.
  • The transaction volume concluded on the TGE increased by more than 42 per cent, and at the OTC virtual point by nearly 17 per cent.

The gas sales volume for transactions executed at the OTC virtual point in the third quarter of 2025 amounted to 5.4 TWh, representing an increase of nearly 0.8 TWh compared to the third quarter of 2024. In turn, the volume of gas delivered under contracts concluded on the TGE amounted to 28.1 TWh, which means an increase in deliveries by as much as 8.4 TWh relative to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The average gas price for transactions concluded on the TGE in the third quarter of 2025 amounted to 177.27 PLN/MWh, which is nearly 30 per cent less than in the corresponding period of 2024. Meanwhile, in contracts executed at the OTC virtual point, buyers paid an average of 164.27 PLN/MWh for gas, meaning a price decrease of 14.5 per cent.

In the third quarter of 2025, the volume of high-methane gas flowing through the Polish transmission system increased by 25.7 per cent. Gas supplies via the LNG terminal also increased by 20.8 per cent, while gas supplies from the European Union by 69.7 per cent.

At the end of the third quarter of 2025, 192 entities held a licence for trading gaseous fuels in Poland. Ninety-two companies actively participated in the natural gas trading market.

[1] The OTC market refers to transactions executed outside the exchange, directly between market participants, using the virtual gas trading point established for the Polish market area.
