The President of the URE has appointed the Polish Energy Cross-Sector Growth Accelerator

The Polish Energy Cross-Sector Growth Accelerator is a venture established by initiative of the President of the URE (Energy Regulatory Office). The Accelerator kick-off meeting was attended by nearly thirty institutions and industry organisations, along with representatives of Polish ministries with jurisdiction over the national energy policy.

“I am interested in acting to support the Polish energy industry and foster integration of its sectors. The Accelerator is a format for collaboration, dialogue, and exchange of knowledge and experience. It is a space for collaborative creation of successful, practical solutions to accelerate growth of the energy industry in Poland, while achieving the climate goals. The foundation of these activities should be a shared drive for consensus,” said Renata Mroczek, the President of the URE

The establishment session of the Accelerator and its Strategic Council was attended by the Polish administration, including the Minister of Energy, the Minister of Climate and the Environment, and the Minister of State Assets. The new initiative involves Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, a transmission system operator, and the Polish Power Transmission and Distribution Association, representing the grid operators, as well as organisations and companies from the district heating, natural gas, RES, energy storage, liquid fuels, and energy-intensive industries.

The primary mission objective of the Polish Energy Cross-Sector Growth Accelerator, which will be based at the office of President of URE, will be to coordinate action to bolster cooperation between the entities shaping the Polish energy market in the broadest sense, as well as sectors particularly sensitive to the challenges they are facing due to changes in the energy market. This cooperation is expected to enable successful implementation of multiple changes behind the Polish energy transformation, including the requirements of EU climate policy, the development of renewable energy sources, closer cooperation between the electricity, heat, natural gas, fuel and hydrogen sectors, their digital transformation, or the development of electromobility, while maintaining the competitive strengths of key industries and the Polish economy as a whole

The Accelerator is planned to enable:

  • identification of the key needs, opportunities and challenges facing the Polish energy sector;
  • building synergies between stakeholders and participants in the energy and fuel markets;
  • development of recommended actions (including those legislative and regulatory) to support the transition and the development of joint positions and reports;
  • consulting on regulatory projects and measures to support the transformation and development of commercial and distributed energy generation, energy storage, zero-emission heating, e-mobility, and digital transformation;
  • exchange of experience and good practices;
  • building mutual trust and responsibility among market actors towards systemic change.

These specific issues will be worked on by design teams composed of experts assigned by the Accelerator’s Strategic Council members.

The next Accelerator session is scheduled for November this year.
