Gas market: notable slump in gas prices in Q1 2023

The President of the Energy Regulatory office published a quarterly report on average purchase prices for natural gas. The information includes, for the first time, the purchase price of natural gas imported from countries that are not members of the European Union or parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA).

In the first quarter of 2023, the average price of natural gas purchased in EU or EEA countries was PLN 296.51/MWh , more than PLN 140 lower than the average price of this fuel in the same period last year.

For the first time, the President of URE has published the average purchase price of natural gas imported from non-EU and non-European Economic Area countries, which was PLN 223.29/MWh for the first quarter of 2023. The publication of this price is possible due to a change in the market situation, which has affected the structure of obtained data and therefore allowed the disclosure of the average price by the Regulator with due protection of sensitive information.

Information on average quarterly prices for the purchase of natural gas from abroad is published pursuant to Article 49c(2) of the Act of 10 April 1997 Energy Law (Journal of Laws 2022, item 1385, as amended).
